TasNetworks advises that all power should be restored.
The cause was of the outage to about 900 people was an underground cable fault.
TasNetworks thanked all customers for their patience.
UPDATE 8.57PM:
About 70 customers are still without power.
Crews are still inspecting the lines to find the issue.
An update is expected at 9.30pm.
UPDATE 8.07PM:
The outage has been caused by underground fault in a line near Cimitiere Street Launceston.
TasNetworks crews have been able to restore power to more than 700 customers.
One hundred customers are still affected which is mainly restricted to the central business district.
A TasNetworks spokesman said causes of underground faults normally take longer to find.
The spokesman said there is a chance crews may have to dig to find the cause.
Customers are advised to check for an update at 10pm.
UPDATE 7.36PM:
TasNetworks is investigating the cause of more than 870 power outages in Launceston.
Crew have undertaken a “trip and lockout” to try and find out what has happened.
TasNetwork’s crews are now patrolling the lines in the affected areas to attempt to find the cause.
While a structure fire was reported at Racecourse Crescent, Tasmania Fire Service has told The Examiner there was no fire and the power outage is unrelated to the callout.
EARLIER:
Almost 900 properties are without power throughout Launceston.
An outage hit the city centre, Invermay, Mowbray, East Launceston, and Ravenswood, on Saturday evening.
Some traffic lights are also affected. Motorists are reminded to give way to their right when approaching intersections.
TasNetworks has not identified the cause of the outage.
There is no estimated restoration time, but customers are advised to check the TasNetworks website after 8.30pm.
Once the cause of the outage is determined TasNetworks will be able to give an estimated time of restoration.
