Tasmanian Cases
There are 156 long-term missing people in Tasmania, dating back to 1955. Each year, about 125 people are reported missing in the state.
Trevor Bailey
LAUNCESTON
It has been 24 years since Trevor Wayne Bailey boarded a flight in Launceston, never to be seen by his family again.
On January 16 in 1993, the Launceston man called his sister to let her know he arrived at his destination.
She never heard from him again.
On the anniversary of his disappearance this year, his sister told The Examiner she still held hope for her brother’s return.
“My worst fear is that Trevor has met with foul play, he would never have his family this worried for this amount of time,” she said.
“I hope he will come back or we will at least know what happened.”
Trevor’s disappearance has been treated as suspicious and information received by police suggested he may have been in Western Australia in 1996, three years after he was reported missing.
Trevor has been described as:
- 182 centimetres tall
- Slim build
- Blue eyes
- Black hair

GEORGE TOWN
Margaret Sarnek was reported missing by her husband Tad Sarnek after she disappeared at George Town in August, 1975. The mother-of-three had been in Tasmania for eight years before she went missing, after migrating from England. She would be 82 this year.
