Association chief Steve Old said Labor needed to make its gaming policy public.

“We are frustrated that you have some opportunistic candidates and current members of the Labor party coming out, giving their personal opinion on poker machines, trying to win over support and thing saying ‘it’s just our personal view not our party’s’,” Mr Old said.

“We are not going to put up with candidates and members of the Labor party having hot shots at parts of our industry.”

Labor promised to reveal its policy before the election, while the government is waiting for the outcome of a Parliamentary Inquiry into Gaming before finalising its position.

Mr Old said he respected that an inquiry was underway. Treasurer Peter Gutwein also called on Labor to release a policy.

“We put our policy position before the inquiry … we want to see a reduction of the machines and importantly we want to put the federal’s license out to tender,” he said.

“Labor need to explain where they stand on this and to ensure whether the industry can have confidence.”

Greens MP Rosalie Woodruff said there was silence on pokies at Labor’s recent state conference.

“If Labor MPs and candidates claiming to have personal opposition to pokies in the community were pushing for policy change this was where they should have spoken up,” she said.
