Denison Labor MLC Madeleine Ogilvie used the Local Government Association of Tasmania meeting to raise concerns about poker machines in suburbs.
The state opposition has not revealed its policy on gaming – but promised to do so before the election.
The government is waiting for the outcome of a Parliamentary Inquiry into Gaming before finalising its position.
But on Thursday Treasurer Peter Gutwein said the government had “introduced measures to ensure gaming can be safe”.
“I believe Tasmanians should be able to decide where they want to gamble and at the moment that’s exactly the choice that they have,” Mr Gutwein said.
Mr Gutwein said the opposition “appear to be split”.
“They need to ensure they provide a very clear answer to those owners of pubs and clubs – exactly what they would do if they were in government,” he said.
