In June the RACT pushed for wholesale fuel price savings to be passed along to the consumer in an attempt to keep petrol costs down for families and businesses.
RACT general manager member assist Darren Moody said that in Tasmania, some retailers could claim up to almost 28 cents per litre in profits, higher than anywhere else in the nation.
Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry chief executive Michael Bailey agreed, calling for further review into the petrol supply chain to determine where the savings were going.
Last year, The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission investigated the Launceston petrol market and found prices in the city were significantly higher than in the five largest cities in Australia.
The government announced earlier in 2016 that it would provide $60,000 to RACT to help consumers find more timely and accurate fuel prices through the GasBuddy app.
