``Prison only makes people harder,'' 65-year-old Leonie Briede said.

``And I wouldn't want anyone to end up hard.''

Police are still searching for the youths who attacked wheelchair-bound Ms Briede on the Burrows Street footpath just 200 metres from her Prospect home on Tuesday.

Detective Inspector Scott Flude said the investigation was continuing.

The attack left Ms Briede badly bruised with three broken ribs.

But while she wants police to catch her attackers she doesn't think they should be jailed.

``I would like them to be re-educated to learn that people have a right to walk the street and walk their dogs, and just because you're getting older and you might be disabled doesn't mean you can be beaten,'' she said.

``I would like them to learn respect.''

Ms Briede said she was grateful for the support of her friends and the Launceston Benevolent Society, which delivered a care package yesterday.
