Constable Richard Douglas said the Police Charity Trust Bike Ride was now in its 12th year, and had exceeded all expectations thanks to the dedication and enthusiasm of participants and supporters.
The ride began at Cradle Mountain on Saturday, and would travel to Strahan, Queenstown, Tarraleah, and Glenorchy over three days.
About 78 riders and 12 support crew were involved.
“The ride truly challenges the riders and will push them to their limits as they pedal the 400-kilometre journey, often through unpredictable weather conditions, sometimes freezing cold in heavy rain,” Constable Douglas said.
“With us again this year are several police officers and sponsors who have ridden and supported us every year since 2007.
“It’s thanks to the dedication and enthusiasm of our participants and supporters that we are able to annually donate to help those in need in our community.”
Constable Douglas said across the past 11 years the ride had raised $440,000, and hoped to add another $50,000 with this year’s event.
