Tasmania Fire Service station officer Rick Mahnken said crews responded to multiple calls from concerned residents about 5.40pm regarding a fire at 30 Hobart Road.
“Upon arrival, two crews found heavy smoke and flames issuing from the front of the house,” he said.
“Initially it was a defensive attack, so we got some water from the front of the house, and committed a crew to do a search from the rear of the building.
“There has been significant damage to the front of the house, and smoke damage to the rear of the building.
“Initial investigations indicate the fire started in the front left room of the house.”
No one was in the building at the time of the blaze.
Tasmania Police diverted traffic along Hobart Road while the fire was being contained.
Investigations are continuing into the cause of the fire.
