St Michael’s Association submitted a development application to the City of Launceston to expand its facility on Hoblers Bridge Road at Newstead.
The application details plans for 14 additional accommodation units, which includes nine independent units, several shared or respite rooms, and accommodation for support workers.
That meant there would be up to 25 new beds.
Two of the beds would be filled by support workers.
The applicant said in the report that the development was designed to increase the residential stock and options with the St Michael's Association site at Hoblers Bridge Road.
“The facility will provide accommodation over the life span of residents by offering transitional accommodation.”
Principal planner and bushfire assessor Ian Abernethy said, in the application, the development was a “simple matter of an extension to a current special needs school”.
