Historic fun at Pyengana
The small town of Pyengana will come to life when its annual Easter Carnival takes place on March 30, 31 and April 1.

With history reaching back as far back as the early 1900s, the carnival will showcase skills such as woodchopping and blacksmithing.
The two-day event will also feature working sheepdog trials and dog obedience displays, trade stalls, and a display of cars, bikes, stationary engines, machinery, and other collectables.
A sit-down morning and afternoon tea and lunch will be offered to patrons, with a barbecue and bar also available.

Easter comes alive
From 11am on Saturday, Christian community group Launceston Alive will host its Children’s and Families Festival at City Park.
Face painting, rabbit petting, craft activities, games, a jumping castle and hot cross buns are all on offer for no charge.
From 2pm to 8pm, the celebrations will be targeted at teenagers, with ten bands and a barbecue planned.
The Launceston Salvation Army will host a Multicultural Celebration Dinner on Thursday from 6.30pm as a part of the festival.

The town as pretty as a picture
Artists will begin painting in Sheffield’s outdoor gallery on Sunday, as Mural Fest kicks off for the week.
The “town of murals” will be buzzing throughout the week, before the finished artworks are judged next Saturday.
This year’s theme is, “our wonderful world”, with nine artists involved in the week-long “paint off”.
Taste of the North West and the Sheffield Town Hall Market will also be held on the final day – April 7.
On the big screen
Launceston’s Star Theatre is hosting three days of fun over the Easter long weekend.
The festival features films Sing, The Greatest Showman, Swingin' Safari and cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
There will also be whisky and beer tasting and an Easter egg scramble on Sunday morning.

Final curtain call
Saturday is the last chance to see the Encore Theatre company’s highly praised production Les Miserables.
There will be two showings on Saturday: a 1pm matinee, and 7.30pm.
The production has been running at Launceston’s Princess Theatre since March 15.

Alfresco Saturday
A Day on the Goat will offer something for everyone on Saturday.
Goaty Hill Wines will open its doors from 11am for the event, which will feature live music from acts such as The Bad Dad Orchestra and Cody Gunton.
A number of food vans will be in attendance to complement a huge selection of wines.

On the hunt
Nearly 300 children are expected to take part in Tassie’s Greatest Easter Egg Hunt at Penny Royal in Launceston. The hunt begins at 8.30am. Register at pennyroyallaunceston.com.au
Children of all ages can take on the Tailrace Centre’s egg hunt.
The event runs from 10am to noon.
There will also be Easter-themed games.
The event supports Huntington’s Disease.
A family entry for members is $10, $15 for non-members.
