On Saturday, a development application was advertised by the City of Launceston.
The proposed playground would be built up to the same level as the existing public amenities to protect the equipment from flood events.
The playground would be raised about three metres.
The application said the raising the height of the area would also allow an elevated view across the gorge.
Proposed plans would see the space transformed into a nature-based play area, with an outdoor amphitheatre, a water play zone, native plantings, boulders, tree trunks, a sand pit, an accessible swing set, sensory garden, a stone seeded creek bed, and a mouse-wheel treadmill.
The development application will close on March 19.
In 2016, the existing play area directly in front of the cafe and public amenities was flooded four times, costing the council between $60,000 and $80,000 to repair.
