As of about 8.20pm Ms O’Byrne had received 5908 first preference votes of the Labor group total of 9349.
The progressive quota stands at 5722, with 48.47 per cent of the Bass vote counted.
The entire Labor Bass contingent of Adam Gore, Jennifer Houston, Brian Roe and Owen Powell were with Ms O’Byrne at Invermay Bowling Club on Saturday evening as the election results came to hand.
Ms O’Byrne said Labor’s positive campaign mentality had transcended into the tally room, but acknowledged the “unfortunate last few days” for the incumbent government.
