The Launceston busking brothers will play to a much larger audience this month when they take to the stage at the Forth Valley Blues Festival.
Lucas, 18, Zac, 14, and Jake, 16, won the chance to appear at Tasmania’s premier blues and roots event after taking out the Forth Valley Blues Competition.
It will cap off a busy couple of months for the trio, who have also appeared at Music In The Park and Festivale.
Guitarist Lucas said they had to beat out some stiff competition to book their place at the festival.
“There were some really good acts in the final, so we were ecstatic to have won the competition,” he said.
“It’s going to be one of our biggest gigs yet.”
Originally formed as a family band with father Lynden, The Fergusons have been playing together for more than a decade.
When they are not entertaining the masses at Harvest, the group is busy playing a wide variety of shows around the state, including charity fundraisers and jazz clubs.
Lucas said they aimed to bring something new to each appearance.
“The way we play music is a bit different,” he said.
“We tend to take a song and mess around with it to make it our own.
“Technically we play covers, but we never play them the way they are written.
“I’d best describe our sound as blues mixed in with jazz and funk.”
The group join Tamsanian acts Guthrie and Pete Cornelius in being unearthed through Forth Valley Blues Competition.
Forth Valley Blues Festival committee member Ian Mclean didn’t hold back when giving his opinion of the group.
“It’s really refreshing to see some young faces come up through the ranks,” he said.
“All three are accomplished musicians and they definitely have a bright future ahead of them.”
