I thought he was unbeatable and he raced accordingly
- Jockey Jason Maskiell
The Scott Brunton-trained Hellova Street gave nothing else a chance as he strolled home 3-1/2 lengths clear of stablemate Step The Pedal with Royal Rapture a half length away third.
Maskiell, who had earlier won the $150,000 Gold Sovereign on Tiesto, celebrated his biggest day since returning to the saddle after a long layoff.
He revealed later that he had been offered a job in America, which he was considering, but he also had a burning desire to return to Melbourne when he enjoyed success as an apprentice.
Maskiell said he had been extremely confident of winning on Hellova Street who also claimed the same race last year.
"I thought he was unbeatable and he raced accordingly," Maskiell said.
"He did it easily - he's just a machine."
Brunton said that Hellova Street had been "a good horse from day one."
"He's just an awesome sprinter and to be able to stretch his form out to 1600m is a fantastic effort," the trainer said.
"I'm rapt with the horse and it’s good to be a part of Jason's return which is his reward for a lot of hard work."
