In 1998, as a 15-year-old, Jelena won the US Open junior title and the French Open doubles title and became the number one junior in the world in 1998.
In early 1999, still only 15, Jelena won the Hopman Cup for Australia partnering with Mark Philippoussis, and also reached the third round of the Australian Open.
Later in 1999, at the age of 16, Jelena caused one of the biggest upsets in tennis history beating world number one, Martina Hingis as a qualifier.
It still remains the only time a world number one has lost to a qualifier at Wimbledon. Jelena went on to reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon.
Jelena will be awarded the Momentum Most Inspiring Woman of the Year Award in 2018.
Jelena is now commentator for Channel 7, Fox Sports and Tennis Australia.
