The funding would also go towards purchasing additional equipment.
Labor Leader Rebecca White said the frequency of rescue operations in Tasmania was increasing.
“We know that there aren’t enough staff who are trained at the moment to assist with the number of rescues – as many as 700 rescue hours a year - that take place,” she said.
“We need to be able to ensure that the service can be appropriately supported with skilled staff who understand how to support these pilots when they go about their rescue activity.”
