Since 7am police and emergency services have received higher than usual reports of motor vehicle crashes across the state’s North-West, with initial investigations indicating weather was a contributing factor.
Rain is predicted to ease across the state’s North-West, South and central regions on Saturday, but will continue for most of the West and East Coast.
The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted possible isolated thunderstorms in the West and East early Saturday afternoon, as a cold front crosses the state.
Police are reminding motorists to drive to the conditions and to:
- Avoid harsh acceleration and sudden stops - sudden acceleration and braking will result in a loss of traction causing the vehicle to skid and possibly lose control
- Increase the distance between you and the car in front - during wet weather your vehicle will take longer to stop in the wet
- Reduce your speed when driving in wet weather particularly when entering and exiting corners
- Allow extra time for a journey
