Spectators at this year’s Launceston International are being greeted at the gates by a group of dedicated friendly faces.
Some players themselves, this year’s tournament volunteers all have one thing in common – a love for tennis.
Roslyn Burr has been volunteering at the event since its inception and said the greatest thrill was getting to see some of the best up and coming players.
“I have been playing tennis for more than 60 years so I absolutely love it,” she said.
“Getting to see players from all over the world and cultures.
“The opportunity to watch players of all different abilities is invaluable.
“I got to watch Alex De Minaur here last year and you could just tell he was going places.
“Now 12 months on, just look at him.
“Someone competing here at this year’s event could just be the next best thing.”
This year there are about 20 volunteers minding the gates and ensuring spectators have all the information they need.
Launceston’s Jennifer Meadows said the tournament was one of the best value for money events around.
“It only costs people a gold coin donation and there is just so much happening here,” she said.
“If you wanted to go to Melbourne to watch a game it would cost an arm and a leg.
“There is some very high quality tennis being played here this week.”
The Launceston International wraps up on Sunday.
