Not to be confused with World Penguin Day in April, the unofficial holiday is used to celebrate the flightless birds and their unique characteristics.
It will be business as usual for Low Head Penguin Tours operator Shirley Lincoln, who admitted she “had no idea” of the day’s significance.
Ms Lincoln did, however, have some advice for what people should be aware of when they came across penguins.
“It’s really important to be respectful of their safety and also their environment,” she said.
“There are between 2000 and 4000 penguins in Low Head, and the most common breed is probably the blue penguin, or Eudyptula minor.
“They are generally a pretty happy bunch, and we want it to stay that way.”
