The ‘Canes’ next two outings shape as their biggest tests of BBL07, starting with the Adelaide Strikers at the Adelaide Oval on Wednesday, and then ladder-leaders Perth Scorchers at the WACA Ground on Saturday.

“I think it is going to be the biggest test for us these next two games, as I think these are the best two teams in the comp, with Adelaide and the Scorchers in their backyard,’’  batsman Ben McDermott said on Tuesday following the club’s six-wicket win over the Brisbane Heat on Monday.

“We want to keep winning and that (finals) is going to be in the back of our minds, but these next two games are really important for us.”

The ‘Canes have already tasted victory once this summer against the South Australians, by seven runs on January 4, but fell to the Scorchers by seven wickets in their last meeting in BBL06.

The win over the Heat was Hobart’s most complete of its club-record winning streak, chasing down Brisbane’s 8-165 with 10 balls remaining.

D’Arcy Short (59 from 49) was again the star, while McDermott (32 not out from 19) and Dan Christian (23 from nine) sealed the deal.

“Obviously Christo was a great call to go up the order and it just pretty much took them right out of the game,’’ McDermott said.

“I was really relieved as it always good to finish the game off nice and strong and we did so in the 18th over (and) it was really good to show that we could chase.”

Confidence is high in the camp with the ‘Canes sitting third on the ladder.

“I just think there’s no reason to change a team that’s winning and I think this team can take it all the way,’’ he said 

“We always want to win games and every game we are going to try to win and I’d love to take two wins from these next two games definitely.”

McDermott said batting with the prolific Short, who has a BBL record of 465 runs with a strike-rate of 153.46, was quite enjoyable.

“He’s just been sapping teams from the top order and in the first six overs you can just see the life come out of the team when he’s scoring runs, and he hasn’t missed yet,’’ he said.

“You’d think he’d be sick of scoring runs by now, but he just keeps going. He’s really good and always calm and we always have plans that keeps us steady and he is really good to bat with.”

Wednesday’s match at the Adelaide Oval will start at 7.40pm.
