The School Funding and Reform Principles document will sustain the state’s schools until the long-term bilateral agreement planned for under the needs-based Gonski 2.0 legislation passed in the Senate last year comes into effect.
The future long-term agreement will be negotiated during 2018 while school funding is covered under the interim agreement.
Former Tasmanian Senator Jacqui Lambie negotiated $20 million in additional funding with Federal Education Minister Simon Birmingham for Tasmania to help schools transition to the new model.
The Senate passed the updated needs-based funding legislation in June 2017.
