A decision on moving forward with voluntary amalgamations and potential boundary changes was deferred for the second time by the Glamorgan Spring Bay Council on Tuesday.

Councillor Debbie Wisbey said new information had been received from the director of local government and chair of the local government board, and more time was needed to discuss other concerns.
She said under section 214 of the Local Government Act, if the council was to approve the recommendation the decision on whether to amalgamate went to the minister, before other impacts could be fully considered.

“Finances aren’t the be all and end all of what happens in a municipality ... I would like to see further information on employment, rates, representation and many other things,” Cr Wisbey said.
Deputy mayor Cheryl Arnol said further analysis of the results of the community survey was necessary, as Clarence Council’s withdrawal from the process could change the results.
All councillors except mayor Michael Kent voted to defer the motion.
