Go Nutz will be Launceston’s newest entrant into the city’s growing coffee shop scene, and is set to open in under two weeks.
Located on Invermay Road, Go Nutz will set itself apart from your standard coffee-and-brunch spots by offering something for Launceston’s sweet tooths.
Owner, and man behind Food for Dudes, Ben Chapman is spearheading the charge by offering up handmade doughnuts and gelato from local-maker Della Valle.
Their menu has not yet been revealed, however Mr Chapman said they had something a bit more creative than hot jam doughnuts in mind.
Judging by Facebook photos, the infamous cronut may even be on the menu.
He also said he would be adding the ultimate indulgence to the store's menu – freakshakes.
For the uninitiated, freakshakes are an extreme form of milkshake, usually topped with cream, doughnuts, and any other biscuit, pastry or type of candy you can imagine.
Mr Chapman said he thought the business would be successful, because of their point of difference.
“Both Josh [the store manager] and I are making the doughnuts,” he said.
“We don’t have much experience with doughnuts, but I’m a chef so I’ve been around cooking for a while.
“Our product is going to speak for itself.”
Go Nutz’ collaboration with Della Valle began after Food for Dudes often found themselves sharing similar spaces with the gelato maker, such as the Saturday harvest market.
Della Valle makes all its products on the Invermay property, and are leasing out the front shop to Mr Chapman and his manager Josh Newman.
While Invermay may not seem like a place that makes you think extravagant doughnuts and artisanal gelato, Mr Chapman and Mr Newman both feel their new home will be kind to them.
“We’ve got prior experience with our food van [in Invermay], when we used to trade out the front [of their new site],” Mr Chapman said.
“It’s a much different crowd than we attract in High Street, but there’s a lot of demand for [new coffee shops].
“A lot of people have asked us about it throughout Invermay.”
With more than 500 likes on their Facebook page already, Mr Chapman’s predictions may be justified.
Go Nutz will be located at 179 Invermay Road, and will have its grand opening on Tuesday, January 23.
