Now in its 11th year, the race has a new sponsor in Riversdale Estate Wines and plenty of competitive interest from around the state and nationally.
Derwent Sailing Squadron and Tamar Yacht Club hosts the yearly race, with three Northern yachts competing against two from Melbourne and the remainder from Hobart.
The 285-nautical mile race welcomed back five past line and handicap winners, with entries down from last year’s anniversary edition race of more than 40 competitors.
Launceston was well represented with several family teams of fathers and sons racing together on the same crews.
Derwent Sailing Squadron’s Michael Denney said the race was developed as an easier option for sailors who didn’t have the experience or inclination to tackle the iconic Sydney to Hobart.
