Tasmania Police issued 105 speeding tickets on Boxing Day, charged 11 drivers with not wearing their seatbelt and 10 for driving with drugs or alcohol in their system.

Acting Inspector Luke Moore said the numbers were alarming.
“For Operation Crossroads we target the fatal five which is fatigue, allowing yourself not to be distracted, not wearing your seatbelt and driving with drug and alcohol,” Inspector Moore said.
He said drugged-driving statistics were up because police were focusing on that behaviour.
“We’re really working to target people with drugs in their system. The common drugs that we find in Tasmania is cannabis and amphetamine.”
Tasmania Police attended two crashes on December 26, both of which could have been fatal.
“On the Midland Highway [on Tuesday] a 22-year-old girl crashed her car. She went to adjust the music on her car radio and lost control in the gravel. She crossed the lane ... and crashed into a tree.”
“We had a crash on the Murchison Highway near Warratah. After a shift a male fell asleep at the wheel went across the traffic lane and went about 40 metres of bushland,” Inspector Moore said.
Both drivers received minor injuries.
Tasmania Police continue to search for information about a green Subaru with New South Wales number plates that evaded police earlier this week.
“We’re still appealing for information. Anyone who knows something is urged to contact Tasmania Police or call Crime Stoppers,” Inspector Moore said.
