“I have met with management of the GP clinic and spoken with people in the local community and I am hopeful an alternative can be found, which ensures Lilydale residents have access to local GP services,” Health Minister Michael Ferguson said.
“In the event there is a gap between the current private clinic closing and a new service replacing it, the state government is actively investigating providing support with the assistance of community nursing services, which would be able to link in with nearby GP services.”
The Lilydale GP Clinic is owned by Advanced Rural Health, under the umbrella organisation Your Health Connect.
Earlier this month, The Examiner obtained a letter sent to patients by the company, which said the clinic was set to close on December 29.
There are no other medical centres within a 30-kilometre radius of Lilydale.
“I understand that nearby GP clinics (including the Northern Suburbs Medical Service and Mowbray Medical) have also opened their books to any patients whom were previously seen at the Lilydale clinic, which is welcome news,” Mr Ferguson said.
