A hospital spokesman said the girl, whose name has not been released, remains in a critical condition.
It’s believed the girl and her friend were jumping off rocks at the Bluff on Monday when the pair got into trouble in an area popular with young people but considered unsafe for swimming.
Hobart father Anthony King swam out to the girl he could see face down in the water four metres off the Bluff rocks and held her head out up in the treacherous conditions until a rescue boat arrived.
“I made the decision somebody had to try and do something,” the senior project manager with the Department of Premier said.
