The controlled burn will be rescheduled by Tasmania Fire Service.
EARLIER:
Tasmania Fire Service will conduct a major fuel reduction burn at Bell Bay on Wednesday.
TFS said the burn would take place on land owned by Bell Bay Aluminium and TasRail and would reduce bushfire risk for George Town and Bell Bay as well as provide protection to “critical infrastructure” in the north.
Tasmania Fire Service, Parks and Wildlife and Sustainable Timber Tasmania crews will conduct the burn.
The Fuel Reduction Program was initiated in response to the findings of the 2009 Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission and the 2013 Tasmanian Bushfires Inquiry.
Tasmania Fire Service provides up to date information about its burning schedule online at fire.tas.gov.au.
Residents at Bell Bay or George Town who suffer asthma or health conditions are urged to take care and avoid smoke.
