The Rotary Club of Launceston event was a fundraiser for StGiles and the New Horizons Club, which was scheduled to take place between 9am and 4pm at the University of Tasmania Newnham campus on Sunday.
Rotarian and event organiser Adrian Kok said he was disappointed to cancel the event.
“But I didn’t want Rotarians to arrive to help and find only two to three registered teams,” Mr Kok said.
Plenty of people were excited about the race, but not many people decided to register, he said.
The event had taken shape in eight weeks, but Mr Kok said teams were asking for more time to create their single bed-sized racers.
However, Mr Kok has not given up on Launceston hosting a bed race next year.
He planned fundraise for the same two charities, but would start organising
