“It was a big success for us and an absolutely fantastic day with great competition from kids from around the state,’’ club president Ian Henderson said.
“All the feedback we got from the other clubs was that it was a fantastic event, with a club like Sandy Bay, who were up for the first time, saying they would be back.”
Home-pool advantage seemed to work for the likes of Nicholas Plats and Ethan and Blake Stretton, with the trio walking away with a nice collection of medals each.
Plats won gold in the boys 17 and over 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly, 200m individual medley, 200m freestyle relay and 50m backstroke. He was also part of the silver medal-winning 200m medley relay.
Ethan Stretton walked away with three golds, one silver and one bronze in 15-16 age group races, while Blake Stretton had three gold, one silver and one bronze in 11-12 age group by the end of the event.
The event featured swimmers from Cradle Coast Aquatic, Launceston Aquatic, South Esk Swimming Club, Riverside Aquatic, Hobart Aquatic, HC Swim Club, Sandy Bay Swimming Club and Ulverstone Swimming Club.
Henderson was full of praise for the performances of those from the North of the state.
“I know (Riverside’s) Chelsea Savage (five gold, four silver and one bronze) did well for them and Sophie (Henderson) and her had a ding-dong battle in their age-group in the 15-16s,’’ he said.
“Riverside always have a strong bunch of boys in their 13,14,15, 16 group and they went quite well.
“South Esk had a lot of their younger swimmers come through, which was the same for Launceston Aquatic.
“So in the 10 and under and age groups like that, there were a lot of swimmers from those clubs competing there.”
