Police divers searched the entirety of the lake last week, with a specialist dog used to comb the bushland area.
Given no trace of Mr Fairfax was found, police are now confident he didn’t enter the lake.
The 66-year-old disappeared in the state’s South on Saturday, October 14, after he and his wife embarked on a short day-walk.
Bruce and Louise Fairfax were on the Duckhole Lake track, south of Dover, when Mr Fairfax went missing.
Mr Fairfax has been a teacher at Launceston Church Grammar for the past 29 years.
A police spokesperson said “any further information relevant to Mr Fairfax’s disappearance will be thoroughly investigated.”
Anyone with information should call Kingston Police on 131444.
