Chief Government Whip in the Senate, David Bushby, has emerged as a potential candidate for one of the Federal Parliament’s most respected offices.
Senator Bushby is touted as a favourite to replace Mr Parry in the President’s chair.
A spokesman for Senator Bushby said the parliamentarian would take time to look at any opportunities that could arise.
“With respect to the Senate Presidency, Senator Bushby is considering his options and will make a decision in coming days,” he said.
“Senator Bushby remains committed to advancing the interests of Tasmanians and is looking forward to the opportunity of once again working with Richard Colbeck in the likely event that he is returned to the Senate.”
Senator Bushby relocated to Launceston after the 2016 election saw the Liberals without representation in the North West.
