The training will take place in the vicinity of St John Street from about 10am until 4pm.
Inspector Gary Williams said simulated gun fire may be heard.
“On behalf of everyone involved, we thank the public for their cooperation and understanding while we conduct this necessary training exercise,” Inspector Williams said.
It is the second training police have held at the Paterson Barracks in the past week.
A five-week police training program was held in March this year.
More than 60 Tasmania Police officers participated in a range of simulated exercises as part of the program.
University of Tasmania Stadium was closed off for three hours as officers took part in role-play based exercises, which focused on the apprehension of armed offenders.
