Practicing law for more than 30 years, Mr Geason has experience in civil and criminal matters, in both private practice and with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
His previous positions include chairperson of the Resource Management & Planning Appeals Tribunal, president of the Law Society of Tasmania, Criminal Injuries Compensation Commissioner, member of the Local Government Association of Tasmania Standards Panel, and member of the University of Tasmanian Law Faculty Teaching and Learning Committee.
He is also currently chair of the Resource Management and Planning Appeal Tribunal, and chair of the Parole Board of Tasmania, but will step down from those roles.
“I congratulate Mr Geason on this appointment and look forward to seeing him fulfill this role in accordance with the court’s reputation for fairness and independence,” Justice Minister Elise Archer said.
