Morgen Hawkins, 20, and Kit DeJonge, 19, of South Esk Swimming Club, make up two-thirds of the Tasmanian contingent at the titles at the South Australian Aquatic and Leisure Centre from October 26 to 28.
Hawkins is competing in the women’s 100m and 50m breaststroke and DeJonge in the men’s 50m fly and 100m individual medley.
Breaststroker Jack Evans, 20, of Hobart Aquatic, is the third Tasmanian-based swimmer taking part.
Making waves
Surf life saving clubs run the increasingly popular Tasmanian Ocean Swim Series over the summer months.
The program is: November 25, Carlton Park Surf Festival; December 16, Seven Mile Beach; December 30, Taste of Tasmania, Hobart; January 6, Bridport; January 7, Penguin Island swim at Port Sorell; January 20, Pub to club at Devonport; January 26, Kingston Beach; February 3, Burnie; February 4, Boat Harbour; February 10, Port Arthur; March 25, Kingston; and the Bicheno devil of a swim at a date to be set.
Courses, distances and formats vary and competitors range from serious open water swimmers, to triathletes, swim and surf club members and recreational swimmers.
Aurora dazzles
Aurora Giuliani, of Hobart, broke the state and allcomer girls’ 11 year old 100m freestyle records at a Launceston time trial on October 14, swimming a time of 1:03.68.
