While motorsports is seen as a male-dominated activity, the junior category this year will see a field that has more girls than boys.
The junior sedan competition is for boys and girls aged 10 to 17, with more than 20 drivers competing in this year’s competition.
Included in the field is 11-year old Kiara McKercher.
“I've been around the speedway all my life,” she said.
“My pop used to race and I feel like I'm carrying on his legacy every time I drive onto the track.
“The friendships I've made with the other drivers are awesome.”
The Carrick Speedway season begins on Saturday, at 5pm.
