The upgrade will include a new microwave radio system between Waterhouse Island and Flinders Island, a 76-kilometre optic fibre link joining major population centres, and an upgrade to 4GX capability for four mobile sites.
“Our teams are beginning site assessments for new mobile base stations and other infrastructure that will deliver download speeds across fixed and mobile internet comparable to mainland regional areas,” Telstra area general manager Michael Patterson said.
The $11 million works are co-funded by the Flinders Island Council, the state and federal governments, and Telstra.
