Hanson finished the count on 34 votes, just edging two votes ahead of star defender Ryley Barrack during the club’s presentation night at Moonee Valley Racecourse.
The 22-year-old equals a club record for the most Bruce Montgomery Trophy wins with ex-Tigers captain Travis Robertson (2001-03).
“I’m just really honoured to win this award,” he said.
“I’m really looking forward to next year with the new facilities. It’s a great club to be a part of and I can’t wait.”
Regarded as one of the VFL’s premier inside midfielders, the 187cm Hanson finished third in this year’s JJ Liston Trophy count, was named in the centre for a second straight VFL Team of the Year and was the leader for most clearances and tackles.
Despite past disappointments, the ex-Tassie Mariner is expected to nominate a fourth time for the AFL draft.
