Approximately 80 people are expected at the event at Morton’s Place – City Mission’s community kitchen.
Event tickets cost $100, with all of the proceeds used to pay meals forward for anyone who comes along to the charity’s restaurant.
This means patrons will enjoy a three-course meal in the same seats where people will eat their paid-for meals the next day.
Last year the event raised $15,000, which provided 3000 free meals for anyone who came along to Morton’s Place.
Brisbane St Bistro head chef Terry Fidler was on-hand to feed the hungry diners.
“It’s a really good cause,” he said.
“You try to be a civic-minded person and this is something that’s needed, and I’m quite happy to help out any time I can.
“Sometimes as a restaurant owner it’s difficult to find the time.
“It just so happens that I’ve got good staff now at the restaurant, so I can leave them.
“Tonight is a nice simple three-course dinner. One entree is mushrooms and chicken liver parfait, and another one with hare terrine.
“[Mains are] salmon and a twice-cooked Asian style chicken dish.”
City Mission CEO Stephen Brown said he was delighted with the event.
“I am moved by the generosity of the individuals and firms that have come on board to help people who are doing it tough,” he said.
To a hungry, isolated or homeless person, a hearty meal means a great deal”.
