This weekend also marks the equinox, when day and night are equal in length. It is linked with strong winds, one more reason to try fishing Lake Leake.
Anglers there have been pleased with the quality of trout this season. According to several locals, most have been browns with many from 1.4 kilograms to two kilograms, topped by a brownie of 3.2 kilograms.
Even in choppy conditions and with action sometimes patchy, visiting trollers have been pleased with catches of trout congregating to feed hard on stick caddis and perch.
Then from the sheltered Elizabeth River near the Chalet, nymphs and small hard-bodied lures have drawn more nice browns averaging 1.6 kilograms.
Four Springs Lake is another popular fishery, but currently of concern are lengths of green slime visible along its shorelines, with some out in open water.
