The ever-growing Launceston event on November 12 will feature as one of three races in the series with events to also be staged in Melbourne and Sydney.
Event director Rick Fontyn said Launceston’s selection was an exciting development.
“We are very excited that Launceston Cycling Festival will form part of the Shimano Sprint Series,” he said on Tuesday.
“The Stan Siejka Launceston Cycling Classic in the past has featured Launceston hometown hero Richie Porte and four-time Tour de France champion Chris Froome.
"We are delighted to have our nationally acclaimed events as part of what we expect will be Australia’s best criterium series.
“The goal of this series is to bring the best professional and elite cyclists in Australia together to showcase criterium racing in great locations for cycling fans and the general public.”
Fontyn also confirmed that Tasmania’s former Tour de France rider Wes Sulzberger would be taking over as this year’s race director.
Riders turn their attention to the new Criterium White Bay in Sydney soon after the Launceston race, before travelling to the Super Crit in Melbourne for the crowning of the inaugural sprint king and queen.
The goal of this series is to bring the best professional and elite cyclists in Australia together to showcase criterium racing.
