Minor premier Clarence knocked the Magpies from double-chance contention last week, ensuring that the pressure was off Launceston coach Alex Gibbins.
“Our goal at the start of the season was to finish inside the top two, so we’ve done that now,” Gibbins said.
“But that result certainly helped – locking us in.”
Gibbins could be forgiven for breathing a deep sigh of relief over the Blues being without a host of its talent.
Daria Bannister and Mia King are unavailable for the KGV Park game, the pair named in the women’s All-Australian game to play for the Allies against Victoria.
All as Emma Manix-Geeves and Courtney Webb miss for Tasmanian Roar pre-season cricket commitments.
“We knew this was coming a month ago,” Gibbins said.
Kate Mclaughlin and Skye Brown have also been ruled out with niggling injuries.
The gaping holes has created opportunity, but none more than for Bianca White.
The teenage debutant is fresh off captaining East Launceston to a NTJFA girls flag just six days earlier.
“She’s coming over next year, but we’re rapt she now gets a game,” Gibbins said.
“We had to make an initial squad and we had to cap the numbers, so unfortunately she missed out this year.
“She asked would I mind if she continue to train all year; she just wanted to get better.”
