The 70-year-old was crossing on a green pedestrian light on Lindsay Street when a Redline coach turned at the intersection and struck him.
He was taken to the Launceston General Hospital by ambulance and was suffering serious injuries to his pelvic and abdominal areas.
The driver was uninjured in the collision and there were no passengers on the bus.
Tasmania Police is continuing to investigate the crash but has not confirmed if charges will be laid.
Police said early investigations indicated the bus also had a green light but had not seen the man crossing the road.
