After a shaky start to the season, the Demons look to have finally rediscovered some of the form that took them all the way last year, running away with the game in the final quarter to win 15.15 (105) to 8.13 (61).
The Two Blues were the dominant team early but failed to capitalise on the scoreboard, with Latrobe taking full advantage to lead by five points at the first change.
Penguin challenged on several occasions during the second and third quarters, however the the Demons were always up to the task and increased their lead to 16 points at the final change.
With the final result still firmly in the balance, it was the visitors who made all the running, kicking five goals to one to run out comfortable winners.
Latrobe’s Tyler Dell and Penguin’s Nathan Russell each finished with three goals for their respective teams.
Circular Head maintained its fourth-placed position on the ladder courtesy of a 76-point victory on the road against Devonport.
The young Magpies team were well in the game at half time, only trailing by two points, but were blown away in the third quarter by the Giants.
The visitors went on a scoring rampage, kicking 11 goals to two, before adding a further three in the final term while keeping the home team goalless to eventually triumph 20.15 (135) to 8.11 (59).
Scott Jackson led nine Circular Head goalkickers with five majors, while Matt Elliott and Kalon House were also dangerous inside 50 with four and three goals respectively.
Over at Girdlestone Park, Ulverstone regained top spot on the ladder after brushing aside cellar-dwellers East Devonport by 96 points.
The Robins were never in danger after opening up a 34-point quarter-time lead, and steadily increased the margin throughout the day as the Swans were unable to combat a multi-pronged Robins forward line that was led by five goals from Brandon Howard.
