British ceramics manufacturer Moorcroft will visit Burnie’s Joyce Jewellers on August 16 as part of an eight-leg tour of Australia, showcasing eight pieces inspired by Australian endemic species including the Southern Emu-Wren, the Cairns Butterfly and the Lyrebird.
Moorcroft chairman Hugh Edwards, who will front the tour, said he was expecting to encounter a big turnout at the Tasmanian leg.
“This particular collection houses a lot of interest to people of Tasmania because I think we have three new designs which directly or indirectly owe their existence to Tasmania,” Edwards said.
“One of the most significant pieces in that collection is a tile plaque of the now-extinct Tasmanian Tiger.”
Mr Edwards said Moorcroft had been supplying ceramics to Australia since 1932.
“Australian-design things in the world of Moorcroft are the pieces which over the years tend to gain in value more than perhaps any of the other work we do.
“Out in Tasmania we have several thousand people who own pieces, sometimes many pieces of Moorcroft... we know one person in Burnie who has 65 pieces.”
The event is a free RSVP-only event and will take place from 4pm to 7pm.
