A survey of more than 100 readers of The Examiner revealed a wide snapshot of Tasmanian views on the tourism industry.

The majority of respondents said tourism had helped their communities, but a few were concerned about their communities being overwhelmed by the number of summer visitors.
A near-unanimous call for better public transport and more consideration for the use of rail was joined by emphasis on the need for more tourism industry training.
“There needs to be a focus on developing skills to support business start ups in tourism,” respondent Sarah Cassidy said.
“Tourism is definitely the future of Tassie.”
Alan Woodland agreed. “Encourage more students to consider full-time employment in tourism and event management.”
Steve McNeil said Tasmania needed a more balanced focus on industries. “Tasmania has a very strong agriculture industry but all you hear about is tourism.”
Respondents regularly cited the North East and North West as key growth areas.
