Taking up a place at the Australian Institute of Music in 2016, the former Riverside High School student found himself behind the kit of six-piece Tempus Sun after helping record the band’s first single Owls midway through last year. 

The single has since won two songwriting competitions, plays on MTV, Rage and Triple J radio and helped the band secure a slot alongside Chance The Rapper, Ladyhawke and SAFIA at Melbourne’s Beyond the Valley festival.

“I never saw myself moving away from my home state so soon, but I’m already glad I made the choice, it’s been an incredible year and a half,” Purser said. 

“The response we’ve been getting from people is amazing, both at gigs and after hearing or downloading our music, it definitely drives us more as a band.”

The band will launch its self-titled EP on August 4 before touring the country’s east coast with shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. 

“We’re super stoked to be going on tour.

“We also have a second music clip in the making for our song Gold which is featured on our EP.”

Purser said a Tempus Sun show in his home state was potentially a while off but definitely on the agenda.

“I’ve mentioned it to the band a few times but we’ve been quite busy with university, recording, gigging, and the release of our single and EP.

“We’ll have to wait and see, but hopefully you’ll see Tempus Sun in Tasmania in the near future.”
