Club president Stuart McCarron said he was “over the moon” with the “unbelievable” development.
He said the project would assist the club with its goal to be in the state soccer league by 2019.
“We’ll now have four change rooms. We’ve effectively had two and have had to roster boys and girls going in at different times,” he said.
“The councillors have been great in listening to what we want and helping us through the process. It’s been a good process with the councillors as well as the council.”
General manager Rolph Vos said the site would be “completely redeveloped”.
“The function room is the main room that will remain, other than that it’s being completely rebuilt. All the amenities will be demolished,” he said.
Mr Vos said a new roof structure was also planned.
The project was expected to be more than $1 million.
“I don’t want to say exactly how much it is, because it’s out to tender at the moment. It’s certainly in excess of $1 million,” Mr Vos said.
The redevelopment of the club has been on council’s strategic plan for the Windsor Community Precinct.
“We’ve done a lot of work and a lot of investment down there. But the one thing that stuck out like a sore thumb was the football club because it really needed redevelopment,” Mr Vos said.
Works are expected to get underway in September during the club’s off season and completed by March 2018 in time for the next season.
Plans for the project were announced in 2016 as part of the state government’s plan to bring forward capital works.
“With the advent of the money that the treasurer put forward to accelerate infrastructure programs last year, we undertook to bring forward the reconstruction of the football club,” Mr Vos said.
West Tamar Council has approved the expenditure for the redevelopment and the concept plans, Mr Vos said.
“As far as building construction type permits that is a work in progress,” he said.
The club has about 500 registered players.
