Students from the university and from the Australian Maritime College have joined forces to create the large signs that will be unveiled at UTAS’ open day on August 12. If you are looking from one way the signs will spell at UTAS but if you’re coming from the opposite direction they will spell out HAWKS.
The signs have been created as part of a collaborative design winter elective class.
About 45 students have been involved in the design and creation of the signs, with students from naval architecture and ocean engineering from AMC and architecture and furniture students from UTAS.
Louise Wallis from the School of Architecture said the signs had been given the tick from the university’s engineering team last week.
They will be used for the open day but also for “special occasions” to celebrate the partnership between UTAS and the Hawthorn Hawks.
Hawthorn will take on North Melbourne on August 13 the day after the open day.
