Inspector John Ward said road users should be aware of hazards when travelling in winter.
“Rain and black ice make the roads slippery, vehicles can slide into danger and out of control if the speed
they are travelling at is too fast for the conditions,” Inspector Ward said.
“If a road is closed, don’t drive around road closure signs, or move signs from the roadway. Roads are
closed for the safety of the public and by ignoring these closures your actions can compromise the safety
of yourself and other motorists.”
The advice follows earlier warnings from Tasmania Police this week, after a series of crashes.

Police have advised road users to drive at a comfortable speed, allow plenty of time to stop suddenly and safely when necessary and be aware that roads may become slippery during cold, wet days.
Drivers should also leave plenty of space between vehicles, focus 100 per cent on the road and pay attention to warning signs about hazardous conditions.
Pedestrians have been advised to wear light coloured clothing during the day and reflective clothing at night, use crossings where possible and avoid drinking excessive amounts of alcohol “as it slows reflexes and impairs judgement when crossing roads”.
Bike rider advice includes ensuring front and rear lights are working, using flashing rear lights at night, wearing reflective clothing and using an approved safety helmet.
